About me...

This is a story that I lived and is only a story. I hope you find it as entertaining as I do.

I was born into a very abusive, alcoholic home situation. My mother, thankfully, had the strength to eventually get my siblings and I away from my father before he killed any of us. We were battered and scarred, but we survived. However, my mom's pick for my father's successor was an emotionally unhealthy man who knew only self-loathing and pettiness. After years of emotional and mental abuse and several attempts at running away, I was eventually able to get away from that input into my life. These events became some of my greatest blessings, once I grew enough to understand them.

At 15, I found myself standing in front of Mann's Chinese Theater in Hollywood, Ca. This was accomplished through the agency of hitch-hiking to someplace no other of my family had ever been. Arriving in Hollywood, I was able to see a wonderful street performer - a live mannequin. After spending a few days watching him, and starting to get weak from hunger, I decided that I could do that too. So I tried it, and found that I had some talent. Soon I was making a bit of money from it, enough, at least, to feed myself and survive.

It occurred to me that the Robot Dance that I had learned from my brother might work well with my act, so I added it in and to the amazement of myself and those watching, it fit like a glove. Later that year, a friend of mine, having learned how to twist some balloons, showed me what he knew, and again a new talent was discovered. This is a process that never ceases to amaze me! The balloons became my mainstay performance as it was the most fulfilling of the things I did.

For the next several years I traveled the country via hitch-hiking. Believing that the police were searching for a young runaway from Hamilton, Oh, I chose to act like an Englishman until I turned 20. I twisted balloons and performed all over the country - Venice Beach, Key West, Boston Harbor, Niagara Falls, Bourbon Street, by the Space Needle in Seattle - basically wherever I found myself.

From time to time I would find myself a little outside the law and spent a few days and nights in jail for obstructing public sidewalks when my audience got too big or for trespassing when I would unroll my sleeping bag in the wrong place. My big stay, so to speak, was 30 days I spent in a city jail for shoplifting when I was 18. I became a trustee the first day and was allowed to go outside the jail from time to time as it was obvious I wasn't a hardened criminal. Being a wanderer, I've been robbed of everything I owned several times and so became used to having very little and starting over. The Great Spirit was obviously watching over me, as was evidenced by how many times I escaped death or serious injury.

Over the years, I would teach other performers what I did in exchange for their teaching me what they did, thus gaining more and more entertainment experience and skills. I would entertain at birthday parties, company picnics and many other types of events. This I still do today, as evidenced by the content of this website, though I am starting to shift to what is truly my calling - helping others to gain inner peace through writing, speaking, and the Dance-2-Life Workshops.

I found myself driving an ice cream truck when I was 21, and being attracted to a young lady who would often buy ice cream from me, I asked her out. Little did I know that that event would change my life forever in amazing ways. It turned out that she was a teacher-trainee for Arthur Murray Dance Studios in Cincinnati, Ohio. She invited me to train to become a dance teacher and made me feel that my 8th grade education wouldn't be a problem. So I went in to the studio to try it out.

After just a couple of days of training, I was hooked. My life-situation became Dance. Everything was dance. I would go into the studio early to work on my dancing and I would stay until long after the studio closed. Then I would go to the clubs to dance. As most of my students were very educated people, I began to study them and the way they spoke and acted, as well as reading ever more voraciously. My manager gave me the book entitled, 'The Magic of Thinking Big' which started me consciously onto the path of self-realization.

In the years since, I have continued to learn and study dance, balloons, Spirituality and many other subjects. I received my GED in '92 with high percentages in all subjects. I started Twist of Air Enterprises as an umbrella name to encompass anything that I am led to do. I have performed at thousands of parties and other events and I have taught thousands of students - specializing in teaching beginners and intermediates - how to dance in the past couple decades.

A few years ago, I found that I have a daughter. At that time she was thirteen. When she was 17, I decided to move to Bellingham to get to know her better before she moved on with her life. Well, since that time she HAS moved on with her life; getting married in '08 to Robert (in the Army and deployed to Iraq). Since my reasons for staying in Bellingham no longer applied, when she invited me to come live with her in Lacey for a few months, I joyfully accepted the invitation. By the way, she is an absolutely fabulous young woman!!! (Love ya lots, Cly!)

One of the changes that came about in the past 15 years has been an ever increasing interest in spirituality. I have studied and read about every spiritual tradition I have been able to find. (A fantastic resource for this is www.beliefnet.com) I felt especially drawn toward Buddhism. Then, in 2003, I had an experience that changed my life once again. This change has made me realize that "my talents" are not mine at all, but are just...on loan, you might say. This was the change that prompted me to write "Thank You" .

While in Bellingham, I began writing a book, 'God is a Ballroom Dancer' and also continued my studies of Spirituality while teaching an ever-increasing number of people how to live much happier, more fulfilling lives free of fear, worry, and stress. Additionally, I worked to bring joy to all that I meet through the agency of dance and entertainment. This I will continue to do, wherever I go.

I travel about on a 150cc motor-scooter with all that I own (a backpack, sleeping bag, tent, balloons and my computer. So far, I've put over 7,000 miles on it. I sleep where people give me space to sleep. Sometimes indoors, sometimes in the tent. I go where invited and stay until I feel a "resolution point", or a feeling of completion. Then the Universe (as I call God or One Source) lets me know where to go next. Usually, there are major changes in the lives of those I interact with, though I am not under the illusion that it is I that works the changes!

I have been given the name Yogi Kaivalyananda (the highest bliss of absolute freedom) by my friend and teacher, Swami Omkarananda. It is my calling  and charge to help others attain new levels of spiritual/self understanding via satsangs and one-on-one counseling. I do this on a donation basis - no fee is ever charged.

Since I believe that names are just license tags for the individual body we ride around in, names should be helpful to the one who wear it. I changed my name to Brit in large part because I thought it would be a good entertainer's name, and it has been. I am now slowly changing my name again to reflect my increasing involvement in spirituality. So, if I introduce myself as Kai, you will know why!

Again, please don't get the idea that any of this defines me. It is all just a story that I have lived and am continuing to live. My life is truly blessed and as is the case of any who feel truly blessed, I just want to pass the blessings on.

So, feel free to contact me for anything! I will do all that I can to help.

In Love and Peace,

Namaste.

Kai
